Teacher Roles After A RiverWatch Trip

RiverWatch activities extend back into the school following the field trip

Every RiverWatch trip is a complete success with sunny weather, no wind, enthusiastic students and great data collection. Well, at least that's what we try to achieve!

There are always a few details to wrap-up after a RiverWatch Trip along with assigning a major project to students.

Promotion

Focus on the positives

  • Let the department head and principal know how the trip went


  • Let staff know how the trip went

Assign students to write thank-you notes

  • To the adult volunteers


  • To the principal, department head and/or parent council
Debrief
  • Discuss the field trip experience with the class


  • Have students evaluate the field trip verbally and/or in a paragraph/letter
Administrivia
  • Follow-up on any behavior incidents


  • Contact the senior guide if there are any lost and found items


  • Submit field trip fees to the office


  • Ensure that the "Final Invoice" is received, accurate and paid
Data Entry

Photocopy the data sheets or create overheads as needed

  • Have students examine and discuss the field trip data


  • Select students to enter the field trip data on-line

Begin incubating the bacteria cultures

Projects

Refer to the "Student Information" section of the web site for background on what is required for field trip reports, presentations and action projects

  • Assist students with their trip reports, presentations and action projects


  • Use the River Watch website in preparing reports


  • Use RiverTalk to ask and answer questions

Schedule student presentations

  • Invite guests to student presentations


  • Assign marks to presentations and action projects
Contact River Watch
  • Book dates in anticipation of next year's field trip


  • Complete and send the "Teacher Feedback" form
