Grade Nine Science Curriculum
The Alberta Grade Nine Science Curriculum (1990) was changed in November 1999 and revised again in May 2000. Information on both the old and the new curricula are provided below. Optional implementation of the new grade nine curriculum is set for September 2002 and province-wide implementation begins the following September 2003. New Environmental Chemistry Unit A new "Environmental Chemistry" unit will replace the old "Environmental Quality"" unit. This curriculum change will not significantly affect the ecology field trips already being offered. RiverWatch has always had a strong chemistry focus by way of measuring and analyzing dissolved oxygen, phosphates, nitrogen and pH. RiverWatch began meeting the objectives of the old grade nine curriculum in 1995, and it will continue to offer an excellent curriculum fit well into the new millennium. Teachers using RiverWatch to deliver the old Grade Nine "Environmental Quality Unit" will find that the same field trip will make a smooth transition into the new "Environmental Chemistry Unit". |
