First Aid
Your guides are equipped with training, a first aid kit, a rescue rope, radio and a cell phone. If you do your part to be safe, things should go really well!
Inform Your Teacher and Raft Guide
If you need special physical or medical consideration, be sure to inform your teacher and raft guide.
- Be sure to make it known if you have asthma or an allergy to bee stings.
- If you're really nervous about rafting, ask to sit next to the guide.
Take Care of Your Personal Health
We encounter things out on the river that can affect your personal health. Common sense will keep you comfortable and safeā¦
- Wear a hat and sunscreen.
- Check each other for sunburn.
- Drink bottled water only - never river water.
- Enter and exit the raft at the end nearest to shore.
- Don't step into deep water at the back of the raft.
- Wear eye goggles during chemical testing.
- Watch out for bikes when walking river pathways.
- Watch out for cars when crossing parking lots.
- Wade slowly and carefully into shallow water.
- Keep the inside of your boots dry.
Avoid Risky Behaviors
- Don't throw or skip rocks.
- Don't swim.
- Don't pet dogs.
- Don't touch syringes or any other hazardous objects that you find.
- Ask your guide how to safely collect any glass or sharp objects.
