Joanne Steinmann
Coordinator, Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) for the University of Calgary

Joanne is presently the Coordinator of the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) for the University of Calgary. She is also instructing in the Master of Teaching program. Joanne is new to the university after having completed six years as the System Principal for AISI in the Calgary Board of Education.

Before undertaking her role in AISI, she was a principal in elementary schools, a consultant in science education and a specialist in reading. Joanne has been involved with Imagine Calgary and has sat on the Board of Directors for Fort Calgary and Volunteer Calgary (Governance Chair). She remains involved with Fort Calgary to help plan the Canadian Canoe Exhibit. All these responsibilities allow her to connect various organizations to the educational context and to highlight the magnificent work occurring in schools.

Joanne's work with AISI is based on a bold approach to supporting the improvement of student learning and performance by encouraging teachers, parents, and the community to work collaboratively to introduce innovative and creative initiatives based upon local needs and circumstances. The goal of AISI is to improve student learning through initiatives that enhance student engagement and performance and reflect the unique needs and circumstances of each school authority.
